Editorial Policy
Independence, sourcing, update cadence and corrections — the rules this site holds itself to.
Independence
Picks are not for sale. No manufacturer, retailer or agency has paid for a placement, a ranking, or a mention on this site, and none has been offered the opportunity. No brand sees a page before publication.
Every affiliate link on this site pays the same commission rate, which removes the usual structural conflict: there is no model we earn more from, so there is nothing to gain by ranking one above another. Where the cheaper, smaller or lighter unit is the better buy, that is what the page says — and on several pages it does.
Sourcing standards
- Specifications come from the manufacturer's own published page, and every article links its sources at the foot. We do not take specs from retailer listings, and we do not take them from other publishers.
- Regulatory and safety claims cite the issuing authority by name and link to it. For battery travel rules that means the TSA and the FAA directly, not a summary on a brand blog.
- Where a figure is not published, we print 'Not published' rather than filling it in. EcoFlow does not publish a weight for the DELTA 2 Max; our tables say so.
- Where sources disagree, we say so and say which we used. Jackery's specification page and some of its US listings give different weights for the Explorer 1000 v2, and we tell you both.
- Other publishers' measurements are attributed, never absorbed. When we reference OutdoorGearLab's instrumented finding, we name them.
- We never cite a competing affiliate site as an authority for a specification.
What we will not publish
- Fabricated testing. No 'in our testing', no measured runtimes, no lab claims. We do not run tests and we will not imply we do. How we choose states this explicitly.
- Invented credentials. No engineering background, no industry tenure, no certifications that do not exist.
- Testimonials or reader ratings. We have none, so none appear.
- Product star ratings or scores. A number implies a measurement.
- Prices. No live feed means no number, rather than a number that rots.
- Fake urgency. No 'limited time', no 'selling fast'. We have no stock or price data and could not know.
Update cadence
Roundups are reviewed quarterly: is every pick still sold, has a newer generation shipped, has a published spec changed? Reviews are updated when the model they cover changes. Regulatory pages are updated immediately when the underlying rule changes.
The Updated stamp moves only when the content moves. This is worth stating plainly because the opposite is routine in this category — a date refreshed to look current over content that has not changed is a lie to the reader and to search engines, and we found examples of it during research. If a page says it was updated in a given month, something on it was genuinely edited that month.
When a product is discontinued
A dead link behind a buy button is the worst failure this kind of site can have. When we find that a recommended model has been discontinued, we replace it within the quarter, note the replacement on the page, and re-point the link. Where a model has been superseded rather than dropped, we review the successor and keep a short section explaining what changed for people who own the older unit.
Corrections policy
If something here is wrong, we want to know. Email contact@voltandvalley.com with the page and the problem. We aim to respond within a few days.
- Factual errors — a wrong spec, a bad calculation, a discontinued product — are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, and the Updated stamp moves.
- Substantive corrections that change a recommendation get a dated note on the page saying what was wrong and what changed. We do not quietly rewrite a verdict.
- Typos and formatting are fixed without a note and without moving the Updated stamp, because nothing about the content changed.
Being correctable is the only credibility available to a publisher that does not run a test lab, so this policy is not decoration. If the arithmetic on a page does not survive contact with your actual equipment, that is exactly the kind of message we want.
